How to buy concert tickets in Brazil as a tourist: cards, Pix and CPF
The show is worth planning a trip around. Sort out the account, payment and entry ticket before you join the queue.
In this article
Yes, tourists can buy concert tickets in Brazil. The account and payment options depend on the seller and the event, so check both before the sale opens. That preparation matters if you do not have a CPF or Brazilian bank account.
A successful payment is only the first step. You also need the seller to confirm your order and deliver the ticket you will show at the gate. This guide covers Ticketmaster Brazil, Eventim and Sympla, from preparing for the sale to arriving ready to get in.
Before tickets go on sale
Start with the artist, venue or organizer's official link to the ticket seller. The event determines where you buy; choosing another platform is rarely a workaround for a difficult checkout.
Set aside a few minutes to prepare:
- Check the sale time and time zone. Distinguish a general sale from a fan-club or bank-card presale, and read its eligibility rules.
- Set up the account where required. Use your own identity and an email you can open on your phone. Complete any verification before selecting tickets.
- Prepare your card's authentication. Keep access to your bank app and any phone number it uses to approve online purchases.
- Choose the right ticket category. Check the date, city, venue, section, age restrictions and any concession requirements.
- Review the full price. Include service charges, delivery, instalment costs and your payment provider's conversion fees.
Ticketmaster lists credit cards and Pix for online purchases, but says some presales accept only the specified cards. Having access to Pix does not make you eligible for a cardholder presale. Ticketmaster's payment methods.
For the rest of the trip, Tucu is being built to let travellers pay supported local QR codes from one wallet, without opening a local bank account. It has not launched yet; use the seller's accepted payment methods to book your tickets now.
Ticketmaster, Eventim and Sympla: what changes for tourists?
Use this comparison to decide what to check on your event's page:
| Seller | Account or document route | Payment detail that matters |
|---|---|---|
| Ticketmaster Brazil | Foreign ID accepted at signup; passport option in the public form. | Card or Pix payer must match the account holder. |
| Eventim Brazil | Passport registration for foreign customers. | Pix can be unavailable at high-demand sale openings. |
| Sympla | Event-specific forms; check any required CPF field. | International cards when enabled; the organizer chooses methods. |
Do you need a CPF?
A CPF is Brazil's individual tax identification number. A passport route can let a foreign visitor register, but an event may have additional requirements for its sale or presale.
In Ticketmaster Brazil's public signup form, selecting Outros (Other) under country of residence revealed a Passaporte (Passport) option when we checked on 26 September 2026. We inspected the form without creating an account or completing a purchase.
On Sympla, you may see Sou Estrangeiro (I am a foreigner) when entering invoice details. That option covers invoice information; check the event's registration and payment fields separately. Sympla's invoice-data guidance.
Use the foreigner or passport option where offered. If a required field still blocks you, contact the seller through its official help centre. Do not enter a made-up CPF, someone else's identity or a random address to get past it.
Choose inteira or meia-entrada carefully
Inteira means the full-price ticket. Meia-entrada is a concession for eligible attendees, with evidence required.
For student concessions, Brazil's federal law specifies eligibility and Carteira de Identificação Estudantil (CIE) documentation. Do not assume your home university's student card qualifies. Other concessions may apply, so check the event's accepted documents before buying the cheaper category. Federal half-price law, article 1.
If your foreign card is declined
First, check whether you are using a credit or debit card. Ticketmaster Brazil and Eventim list credit cards and Pix for online purchases and explicitly exclude debit cards. Check your card type before spending time changing its settings. Ticketmaster's accepted methods and Eventim's accepted methods.
If your card type is accepted, check the card details, available credit, online-purchase settings and any request from your issuer to approve the transaction. A decline alone does not tell you whether the problem is the card's country of issue.
Ticketmaster may ask for verification through your bank's app or SMS. An unfinished verification can cancel the order. Stay with the checkout until it gives you a result, then check Meus Pedidos (My Orders). Ticketmaster's card-verification guide.
Look for foreign-card instructions on the event's page. For Rock in Rio 2026, Ticketmaster explicitly allowed cards issued abroad without instalments. Check whether your chosen event offers the same option. Rock in Rio payment FAQ.
On Sympla, look for the international-card option at checkout. The organizer must enable it, so a card-network logo alone does not confirm that you can use a card issued abroad. Sympla's card options.
If the card still fails, use another method offered for the event and permitted for your account. Eventim warns that Pix may be unavailable when demand is high, so do not rely on switching to it at the last moment. An authorized box office may be another option, subject to stock, opening hours and accepted payment methods. Eventim's troubleshooting and payment methods.
Using Sympla Bileto? It has separate guidance. Its payment page lists Brazilian and foreign-issued credit cards and boleto, with organizer control. Check that event's checkout rather than assuming the main Sympla site's methods apply. Sympla Bileto payment options.
Paying with Pix on the same phone
Pix is Brazil's instant payment system. At an online checkout, Pix Copia e Cola lets you copy the payment code into a compatible payment app. Banco Central describes it as an alternative to scanning, including when you are shopping on your phone. Banco Central's Pix manual, section 3.1.
Check who is allowed to pay
Ticketmaster requires the card or Pix payer to match the account holder. Asking a friend to send the Pix is therefore not a reliable workaround. Another person being allowed to attend with your ticket is a separate question. Ticketmaster's third-party payment rule.
If you use a payment service, confirm how it identifies the payer to the seller. Being able to scan the QR code is not enough to know that the payment will meet the seller's rules.
Complete the order before the code expires
Set up your accepted payment method before starting a timed checkout. When Pix is offered:
- Review the order and total. Check the event, ticket category, quantity and charges.
- Copy the complete Pix code from checkout. Use the code generated for this order.
- Paste it into the compatible payment app. Review the beneficiary, amount in reais and any conversion or payment fees.
- Pay before the displayed deadline. Do not schedule the payment for later or reuse an expired code.
- Return to the seller and confirm the order status. Save the order number and payment receipt.
Sympla documents a 15-minute payment-confirmation window. It says an expired QR cannot be extended or reissued; starting a new purchase depends on ticket availability. Other sellers and events may use different deadlines, so follow the timer on your screen. Sympla's Pix cancellation guidance and expired-code guidance.
If your payment app shows money leaving but the ticket order remains unpaid or cancelled, keep both records and contact official support before paying again. Paying after expiry does not guarantee that the seller can restore your reservation.
Use the checkout reached through the official event link. Ticketmaster warns about imitation sites and tells buyers to verify its Pix beneficiary before paying. Do not move an existing order to an unexpected payment code sent by a stranger. Ticketmaster's Pix security guidance.
Find the ticket you will show at the gate
The Pix payment code and the entry code do different jobs. After the order is confirmed, check the event's ticket-delivery instructions. A bank receipt or screenshot of checkout is not your admission ticket.
Ticketmaster and Quentro
For the Quentro format, Ticketmaster's current guide links tickets using the email on the purchase account. When the promoter releases tickets later, you may need to open the order in Meus Pedidos to activate that link.
Open Quentro with the same email and check that the tickets appear. Initial access needs internet; stored tickets can then be accessed offline. The codes change, so screenshots will not substitute for the ticket in the app. Follow the instructions for your purchase date and event. Ticketmaster's Quentro guide for purchases after 13 May 2026.
Eventim Pass
If your event uses Eventim Pass, install the Eventim Brasil app and use your purchase-account login. The guide says the entry QR appears 24 hours before the event; a PDF or screenshot is not a substitute. Access the app after buying to prepare the tickets for offline use. Eventim Pass instructions.
Sympla's app-only tickets
Some Sympla events no longer provide a PDF. For selected events, an access code becomes available in the app four hours before the start, and each generated code lasts 15 minutes. Generate it near the time you will enter, following the instructions on the ticket. If the ticket is assigned to another participant's email, that person may need to access it through their own account. Sympla's app-only ticket guide.
Before leaving for the venue, check your ticket, charge your phone and bring the identity and concession documents the event requires. Keep internet access available for any last-minute login or code-generation step.
Check the refund route before booking months ahead
A ticket may be paid for in seconds and refunded through a much slower process. Read both the cancellation conditions and where the money will go, especially if the concert is months away.
On Sympla, a Pix refund starts after cancellation is approved. Its guide says purchases less than 90 days old are refunded automatically to the account that made the payment. For purchases more than 90 days old, it requests bank details for a manual transfer, including the account holder's CPF, bank, branch and account number. The 90-day distinction concerns how an approved refund is paid, not how long you have to cancel.
If you do not have those details, ask support how you would receive a refund before paying with Pix for a show months away. Sympla directs people without a bank account to support, but does not guarantee a foreign-bank refund option. Sympla's Pix refund process.
Ticketmaster's purchase policy says refunds return through the original payment method. Transferring a ticket to someone else does not transfer the original buyer's right to receive the refund. Ticketmaster's purchase policy, sections 14 and 16.
Request cancellation promptly if your plans change. Eventim's published policy gives online and app buyers seven days after purchase to request cancellation. If you buy with seven days or less until the event, it says you must request cancellation at least 48 hours before the event. Keep a copy of your request and its confirmation. Eventim's cancellation policy.
Separately, Brazil's Consumer Defence Code provides a seven-day withdrawal right for qualifying purchases made outside a business's premises. A seller's policy does not replace your legal rights; seek consumer support if a request is refused and you believe that right applies. Consumer Defence Code, article 49.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Brazilian phone number?
Ticketmaster Brazil's public signup form offered international telephone prefixes when we checked on 26 September 2026. We did not test code delivery, so check that you can complete verification with your own number before the sale. Other sellers may use different checks.
Can I buy tickets for someone else?
Check the event's rules for named tickets and transfers. Ticketmaster supports transfers for some events, with the purchase contract remaining with the original buyer. Permission to transfer a ticket does not override its requirement that the account holder and card or Pix payer match. Ticketmaster's purchase policy and payer rule.
Is Pix cheaper than using a foreign card?
Compare the complete checkout price and your payment provider's costs. Sympla identifies service, processing and possible instalment charges; the method and event affect what you pay. There is no universal saving from choosing Pix. Sympla's fee guide.
Get your payments ready for the trip
Once the show is booked, there is still a trip to enjoy: a coffee before exploring, dinner before the concert and a market stop the next morning. Tucu is being built for those everyday payments, with one travel wallet for supported local QR codes in Brazil and Argentina.
The payment flow lets you scan a supported QR or paste a payment code already on your phone, then review the local amount, exchange rate, fees and total before confirming. You can see what you will spend before you pay. Identity verification is required before your first payment, so plan to complete setup ahead of time.
Tucu has not launched, and we have not verified ticket purchases or refunds through Ticketmaster, Eventim or Sympla, including their payer requirements. Use a payment method accepted by your ticket seller for the booking itself.
